Scotland travel points of interest with recommended Heathrow taxi from airport firm

Scotland travel destinations and excellent Gatwick taxi from airport firm? With perseverance and a healthy bank balance touring by train is possible. Long-distance buses are cheap. However, both are sketchy beyond gateway destinations; regional transport in the UK is patchy. Your time is tight. You’re coming for the UK’s interesting corners, especially those in rural areas. That means touring by car. It depends. Blackpool receives the most visitors but is a niche taste: raucous, brash. So contenders include St Ives, Dartmouth, Southwold, Bamburgh, Tenby, perhaps Portree in Skye. Yet consider what you’re after: lanes coiled above a working harbour; a proper community; blustery cliff walks; top-notch fish and chips. Only one excels in all: take a bow, Whitby. What are the least-visited corners of the UK? Northumberland is the least populated region of England, too far north for most English visitors, too far south for Highlands-loving Scots. Ask most Britons about the Cambrian mountains’ stirring moors in central Wales or the Forest of Bowland near the Lake District and you’ll receive blank looks. A vote too for the pretty hills of the Yorkshire Wolds: “Hidden, small, full of valleys,” the artist David Hockney once said succinctly.

Once the site of a Saxon fortification built to defend against invading Danes and later a motte and bailey castle built by William the Conqueror in 1068, Warwick Castle has evolved to become one of Britain’s finest and most complete medieval fortresses. An imposing sight on the banks of the River Avon, the castle is now a popular tourist attraction and usually hosts a range of fun medieval-themed activities and accommodation. The political epicentre of Britain has sat at this location in some form since the 11th century when Danish king Canute the Great built a palace on the river. In its 900-year history, it has been the site of infamous trials (William Wallace and Sir Thomas More), survived the notorious Gunpowder Plot and been the focus of pivotal political rallies such as those by the suffragettes. The current Palace of Westminster was designed by architect Sir Charles Barry after a huge fire destroyed the previous building in 1834.

You always travel between the terminals via the shuttle bus or train. There are a bunch of handy signs to show you the way.

Unapologetically eccentric and always original, Liberty is a whimsical department store near Oxford Circus. It was founded in 1875, but the mock-Tudor Marlborough Street incarnation – constructed with the timbers of two ancient warships – was built in the 1920s. Although Liberty trades on its history, it squeezes fashion-forward innovation into its wood-panelled rooms. Browse silks, Liberty-print cottons and one-off designer collaborations. The Liberty Christmas Shop. Open for a sizeable chunk of the year, it’s a magical, glitter-covered, gift-wrapped festive grotto, perfect for selecting weird and wonderful decorations for your tree. Brussels sprout bauble, anyone?

Regent’s Park is open from 5 a.m. until around dusk each day. There are plenty of tube stations within walking distance from the park, including Regent’s Park (Bakerloo line), Great Portland Street (Hammersmith & City, Circle & Metropolitan lines) and St John’s Wood (Jubilee line). If you’ve managed to visit the biggest and most well known Royal Parks, there’s also Bushy Park, Greenwich Park, St James’s Park and Green Park, completing the eight. Much smaller than the Royal Parks, there are also numerous smaller spaces that were originally reserved for residents of nearby buildings though are now open to the public. Gatwick has a few great hotels within the airport at reasonable price points, but one of my favourites is definitely the Yotel in the South Terminal. You basically walk straight out of arrivals and there’s a lift on your left that brings you down to Yotel. It’s half Japanese pod hotel, half spaceship! The colour theme is white and purple and the lighting is soft and muted. Free Coffee, tea and bottled water is included in the room price and can be gotten from reception 24/7. The shower head is rainfall (dream). The free wifi is great. Room service is available if you’re feeling lazy, though there are plenty of options to choose from in the terminal. The rooms are compact, but that matches the price point and there’s still plenty of room for a suitcase.
